Sapphires and emeralds seem to be the jewels of choice this season. Here’s a pick of the most dazzling baubles that graced the red carpet at Cannes 2013.
Blue and green seemed to be the theme of Cannes 2013 as far as gemstones and jewelry go. Here’s taking a look at these two distinct themes that emerged this year at Cannes.
Undoubtedly the star of the season was Jessica Chastain’s Bulgari ring and necklace, both of which once belonged to screen diva lizabeth Taylor. The Bulgari deep blue sapphire pendant was given to the violet-eyed siren in 1972 by Richard Burton for her 40th birthday. The gorgeous and iconic pendant was paired it with the Bulgari Trombino ring, for the presentation of Cleopatra, digitally restored by Fox to mark the cult film’s 50th anniversary.
Actress Delphine Chaneac made her entrance on the red carpet in Avakian jewellery. The premiere of ‘Le Pass’ over the weekend at Cannes saw her in an awe-inspiring Avakian white gold, diamond and sapphire cuff bracelet that had 16 carats of diamonds and 250 sapphires. This, she paired with a statement flower ring set with a 2 carat sapphire and rose-cut and round diamonds totaling 6 carats. Also at the same premiere actress Louise Bourgoin wore a Louis Vuitton Fontaine ring set with a beautiful blue sapphire.
Lee Hae Young’s Chopard necklace and sapphire drop earrings were show stealers in their own right. Laetitia Casta presented the prize for Best Male at Cannes, wearing a diamond and sapphire necklace and earrings, both by Chaumet. While her bizarre feathered bolero and mismatched Dior dress won her brickbats, the sheer opulence and classiness of her choice in jewels may just have provided some respite from the fashion police.
Actress Ludivine Sagnier flaunted diamond and sapphire earrings and a bracelet by Chaumet to present the Un Certain Regard prize to director Rithy Panh.
Green is the Color of my Love
And it could be yours too, if you dig emeralds as much as the next girl. On day five of the Cannes Film Festival Jessica Biel along with husband actor/singer Justin Timberlake walked the red carpet in a Marchesa Fall/Winter 2013-2014 silk bustier gown with feather detailing. Jessica paired the gown with a white gold diamond pave. Serpenti necklace by Bulgari, that also featured two pear-cut diamonds and emerald snake eyes.
Jennifer Lawrence already the heartthrob of millions with spectacular performances in Silver Linings Playbook and film adaptation of the Hunger Games has also become a pro at red carpet appearances. At the premiere of Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian) Jenniger was dressed in strapless Dior and statement emerald earrings and a whopping emerald ring both by Chopard. The octagonal-cut emerald and pear-shaped white diamond drop earrings were from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection.
Léa Seydoux who stars in Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Color rocked a black Armani dress for the film’s screening and added a pop of color with a pair of gloriously green, 24 carat, emerald earrings by Chopard. The talented actress had plenty of reasons to smile as she picked up the Palme D’Or award for her latest film La Vie D’adele at this year’s festival.
All said and done it was Sharon Stone who trusted her basic instincts and opted for de GRISOGONO’s white gold necklace featuring seven cabochon emeralds and white diamonds for the screening of Behind the Candelabra. The combination of Sharon Stone and deep green stones just took beautiful to another level. In honor of 20 years of the jewelry house, it added loads of lush green sparkle to Cannes. Heidi Klum, Sharon Stone, Adriana Karembeu and Brazilian model Ana Beatriz Barros wore some impressive emerald jewels from this Genevan jewelry house. Lana del Rey, also wore emerald earrings but hers were by Chopard. Ornella Muti sported a striking emerald necklace by Avakian. Kristin Scott Thomas who walked the red carpet for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives accessorized her dark blue sequin-embellished Armani Priv fall/winter 2012-2013 dress with a white gold ring set with a whopping 17 carat emerald, a diamond cuff, and pear-shaped 34 carat emerald earrings.
